THE BOOK:

The Hot Kid - Elmore Leonard (read by Arliss Howard).
Violent shitkickers go glory-hunting in 1930s Oklahoma. Think Louis L’Amour on crystal meth.

NON-FICTION:

102 Minutes: The Untold Story of the Fight To Survive Inside the World Trade Towers.
Hard to read. Impossible to put down.

THE MOVIE:

War of the Worlds
Spielberg’s best since Schindler’s List, and by far the most relentless horror movie in recent memory. And I do mean relentless. And I do mean horror movie. That burning train. That river full of bodies.

THE VIDEO:

Enduring Love
This was only, like, the best film of last year. Good luck even finding it in video stores.

THE COMIC:

Astonishing X-Men
One of the coolest big budget action pictures of the summer is available on comic racks everywhere. Few movies (War of the Worlds, the notable exception) can match Whedon and Cassady’s X-Men for punch, wit, and emotional fireworks. I cried when I learned Whedon hadn’t been hired to direct X-Men 3.

Okay, not really.

THE SONG:

I Will Keep The Bad Things From You – The Damnwells
I just listen to it over and over. Sweet and lovely and funny and sincere. “I will feed you fries with steak sauce/I will keep the price below cost.”

THE CD:

Ghosts – Mark Geary
Been haunting my iPod for months.

THE DRINK:

Newman’s Limeaid
I drink so much of this stuff, I’m pissing green.

ANTICIPATED PLEASURE:

The next season of Lost.
A friend taped the first season, and I gulped the whole thing down in two weeks. Now I wish I had the good sense to take it slow and make it last. Season two might not start for months. What if I die before then?
