THE BOOK:

True Grit by Charles Portis

THE STORY:

"Snow, Glass, Apples" by Neil Gaiman. In a book of remarkable fiction, this one is especially miraculous.

THE MOVIE:

The Incredibles

THE VIDEO:

Angels In America

THE COMIC:

Ex Machina

THE SHOW:

Desperate Housewives

THE COVER:

High and Dry by Jamie Cullen.
This category actually used to be called THE SONG until I realized I was always and only recommending arty, sorrowful covers of older pop tunes - like this bittersweet little number.

THE CD:

U2: How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb

THE GAME:

Rumble Roses

So tasteful. A great game to play with your mom.

THE ACTIVITY:

Putting together my kids' Christmas toys, a job which I should just about have finished right around... next Christmas.

ANTICIPATED PLEASURE:

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling (read by Jim Dale). At this point, little Harry Potter is just about the biggest multimedia phenomenon in all of make-believe. There's the books, the movies, the video game. The most appealing facet of this particular pop culture gem, however, might be Jim Dale's rich, good-humored, imaginative (and unabridged) readings. Listen to just one of the stories this way, and you're hooked.
